And if you don’t have a podcast on Ausha yet, you can try it for free for 14 days.
Most podcast platforms like Apple or Deezer follow a similar process, so Spotify is no different. The basic process is to create an account, submit your RSS feed to the service, and then wait for approval.
To help you navigate the process of submitting a podcast to Spotify, we’ve provided a checklist of requirements that your podcast must meet before being submitted. Then follow our seven-step guide for adding your podcast to Spotify.
Before uploading your podcast to Spotify, make sure your episode meets Spotify’s requirements. Use our checklist below to verify your podcast’s settings:
The next step consists of visiting the “Spotify for Podcasters” site and logging into your account. If you don’t yet have an account, you’ll need to create one before you can proceed to the podcast upload process.
The next screen is where you’ll start setting up your podcast list. To get started, click on the “Start” button, which will take you to Spotify’s Terms and Conditions of Use page. Read the fine print, add your full name and accept the Terms and Conditions of Use. Then click on “Continue”.
The next step is to provide the platform with your RSS feed link.
Go to your podcast hosting service and find your RSS feed link. Then add the link to Spotify and click “Next”. If you do not enter your RSS feed link correctly, you’ll receive an error message asking you to enter the correct link.
What’s a podcast RSS feed?
It’s a URL that websites and podcast listening platforms use to deliver frequently updated information.
Podcast repositories monitor the stream continuously and display new information as it’s added to the stream.
If you weren’t using RSS feeds, you’d need to manually update each platform every time you created a new episode.
An RSS feed for a podcast is a bit different from the one used by a website.
To work properly, a podcast RSS feed needs additional information, such as title, description, illustration, category, language and explicit rating, while an RSS feed for another source would not require these fields.
The standard podcast RSS feed format that we all use today was developed by Apple Podcasts.
On the next screen, Spotify will verify that you own the content of the podcast that you’re uploading.
Spotify sends an eight-digit code to the email address associated with the RSS feed. This email address is most likely the one you used to register with your podcast hosting service.
Find the verification email in your inbox, then enter the unique code on Spotify.
You have one hour to retrieve the code for verifying your podcast. If you miss this window, you can always send yourself another unique 8-digit code.
After verifying that you’re the owner of the podcast, click on “Next”.
The next step is to enter some information about your podcast, including the country it was created in, its principle language, the name of your podcast host and the general category of the podcast.
After choosing a general category, you can then choose three sub-categories. Spotify also allows you to choose two other general categories with their own subcategories.
If your podcast covers a wide range of topics, you’ll want to add additional category fields.
That way, your episode will appear in more places, since Spotify users have the platform to discover new podcasts.
After filling in each field, click on “Next”.
The final step in the process of uploading a podcast to Spotify is to verify all the information you’ve provided.
Pay special attention to the details because you can’t change them once you click on Submit.
When you’re sure that everything looks good, click on “Send”.
Once you’ve clicked on this button, Spotify will have officially received your podcast! It usually takes a few hours for the Spotify team to review the information and upload your podcast listing.
Your program will appear on the platform shortly after that.
Now it’s your turn!
